9/9/09 I called the VA, Hancock, and TIAA Cref. You will need to send something to each of them. BTW: Please let me know you got this email, and keep me posted on when you send in the various forms. BTW2: For Hancock no distribution occurs until forms are received from ALL the beneficiaries. I am not sure what the policy of VA and TIAA CREF is, but allow me to suggest that these forms be filled out and returned expeditiously! The details: ------ VA ----- Being the government, the VA has the fewest hoops to jump through. They are mailing me forms for each of us to fill out. However, these forms are optional. Instead, each of us can send a letter or fax to the VA. This letter, or fax, should contain the following information: You are requesting your share of Earl E Hellertein's policy, which has a file number of RS 1768 48 31 The letter should include your name, address, and phone number. You must sign and date it. If you fax it, the fax number is fax: 1 888 748 5822 be sure to include attn: claim department If you mail it, the address is: Department of Veteran Affairs PO BOX 7208 Philadelphia, PA 19101 I don't see any point in using the forms, but if you really want to use the form, let me know. BTW: about $65k total in this policy. ---- TIAA CREF --- TIAA CREF will mail each of us a form to fill out, just like what they did with Marjorie. They will need one copy of the death certificate. I will take care of that. It is a good idea to note, on the form you send back to TIAA CREF, that the death certificate will be mailed in by Daniel Hellerstein. Of course, TIAA CREF was basically competent, so they have all of our addresses already. Or so they claim. BTW: I think, but wasn't able to verify, that there is about $1 million in the TIAA CREF accounts. Seth has the latest statement. But keep in mind that this is BEFORE tax income -- you have to pay taxes on distributions. ----- Hancock--- Hancock will send forms to everyone. I will provide one copy of the death certificate to them. It is probably a good idea to note on your forms that the death certificate will be provided by Daniel Hellerstein. Of course, Hancock didn't have addresses, so I had to give them all your addresses again. BTW: I believe there is about $100k in this policy.
